Successful Steps Intervention
Heidi Lee, M.Ed.
Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner

Welcome
Many families come to me after their child has worked hard in school or tutoring, yet reading and spelling still feel slow, frustrating, or inconsistent. Despite strong effort and intelligence, progress just hasn’t come as expected.

At Successful Steps Intervention, I specialize in supporting students who need a different kind of instruction—one that is structured, systematic, and aligned with how struggling readers learn. I provide one-on-one, in-person and virtual tutoring for students in grades 2–12 with dyslexia, suspected dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other language-based learning differences.

A formal diagnosis of dyslexia is not required to begin intervention. Many students I work with have not yet been formally identified but demonstrate reading profiles consistent with dyslexia and benefit from structured literacy instruction.

My instruction is grounded in the Wilson Reading System®, a research-based structured literacy program aligned with the Orton-Gillingham methodology and recognized by the International Dyslexia Association for its effectiveness in helping students develop strong, confident reading skills.
Is This the Right Fit for My Child?
Many of the students I work with are bright, motivated, and capable, yet reading and spelling continue to feel slow, effortful, or frustrating despite strong effort and support.
Your child may benefit from structured literacy intervention if you notice some of the following:
✓ Reading is slow, effortful, or lacks fluency
✓ Your child guesses at words instead of sounding them out
✓ Spelling is inconsistent or significantly below grade level
✓ Unfamiliar or nonsense (made-up) words are especially difficult
✓ It is hard for your child to hear and work with individual sounds in words
✓ Rapid naming tasks (quickly naming letters, numbers, or objects) are challenging
✓ Progress has been limited with other reading programs or tutoring
✓ Reading or writing in English is difficult, even though your child can speak and understand it well
✓ Your child has been diagnosed with or is suspected of having a language-based learning difference such as dyslexia
Many families come to me feeling unsure of what to try next. What these students need is not more practice, but a different kind of instruction. This instruction is structured, systematic, and aligned with how struggling readers learn.
